The Makarska beaches are truly unique in Croatia and a real highlight for sun-loving beach addicts. On a coastline of around 50 kilometers you will find wonderful bays and a whole series of fantastic dream beaches along the Riviera. Many of them have the Blue Flag, the symbol for top water quality. The sea shines here in the most spectacular shades of blue and green pine forests and the high Biokovo Mountains create a brilliant panorama. But where is the most beautiful beach on the Makarska Riviera, where are the secret beaches and secluded bays? With a huge selection of dream bays, you can easily lose track.

In this blog we have put together the best 5 beaches in Makarska. Additionally, you will get useful tips and information on how to best plan your next vacation.

Punta Rata Beach – Brela

Punta Rata Beach in Brela is certainly the most famous beach in Makarska. Even the Forbes magazine voted this dream beach to one of the most beautiful beaches worldwide in 2004. The special thing about Punta Rata beach is its striking rock, the “symbol of Brela”, which protrudes from the turquoise blue sea. This beach is one of the most beautiful on the Makarska Riviera and should not be missed on any trip to this region.

Makarska Central Beach

The approximately 1,500-meter-long city beach of Makarska town is one of the most popular beaches in the holiday region. It is located in Donja Luka Bay, about a 10 minute walk from the old town. This very fine pebble beach is sloping gently and countless pines offer cool shade here. There are a variety of bars, restaurants and cafes along the beach. Numerous water sports, such as pedal boating, riding the banana boat are also offered here and there is also a water park.

Vruja Beach

Vruja Beach is one of Makarska’s secret beaches. It is located near Brela, in the very north of the Makarska Riviera. This picturesque natural bay offers a dream setting with red rocks and untouched nature. Some sections of the coast and smaller bays are suited for nudist to bathe. A real insider tip among the quiet and secluded beaches of the Makarska Riviera!

Nugal beach

Nugal Beach is an ideal retreat for those looking for a more isolated stretch of coastline. Found about 2 km south of Makarska city, the beach is hidden away at the base of steep cliffs on a headland and can be accessed only by walking or taking a boat to its pebbly shore. Take care if arriving on foot as the path is stony and steep in places.

Like some other remote beaches along the Dalmatian coast, Nugal has a free and easy vibe that attracts a fair number of nudist bathers. There are no facilities at the beach so if you’re planning to spend the day it’s best to bring your own supply of food and water.

Nikolina Beach – Baska Voda

The beautiful Nikolina beach is located in the heart of Makarska Riviera in the center of Baska Voda, right next to the harbor. This pebble beach was named after the patron saint Nikola and therefore you will find its statue near the beach. While swimming in the crystal-clear sea you will enjoy a wonderful ambience with the spectacular Biokovo Mountains in the background. This beach is sloping gently, which makes it a popular place for families. There are restaurants, bars and cafes along the promenade – perfect for a refreshment.
